Chapter Five – Alice

Waking up in an unfamiliar bed always took time for Alice to adjust to. Her mind stirred itself awake from otherwise blissful darkness, registering her new location. Which looked like a hotel room. Which probably meant she was outside Geevor, because Geevor didn’t have hotels. Which meant… she turned over as gently as possible, trying not to disturb the sheets, and came face to face with the fast-asleep, mouth-slightly-agape form of Matthew.

Oh, right. She’d done that. She squeezed her thighs together as a quick flick of remembrance went through her brain. Like how at one point, his tongue had been between her legs, and he’d done things she didn’t think was possible with a tongue. How he’d thought he was helping her ride out one orgasm, but he didn’t realize that she’d finished that orgasm, only to shoot straight into another one in a chain reaction she’d only dreamed about. Most of her one-night stands had been very much a one and done. Which she was fine about. Some had been awkward, with conversations like So, you want me to do it here? Shall we, uh, just strip naked? Do you like rimming?

Which was no. Which her profile had stated, but not everyone read past the looking for a hookup stage. There had even been times where she’d seen the glint of the feral animal behind the men’s eyes, and that always excited her, the thought of being taken by someone so strong, consumed by that primal need to screw, hopelessly attracted by the female form.

Matthew’s tongue, his talented fingers, those piercing yellow eyes of his… the sensation of being completely filled up by him… it was honestly one of the best experiences she’d ever had.

But she couldn’t just leave him and forget about him. Nope. She had to work with him still for the next few weeks, possibly next few months, depending on how long the renovations took within her budget, since she couldn’t exactly order priority hours. Or be present for some of the work if it involved that Obadiah man. Seemed like she needed to sort things out before the situation became too complex, and her sisters began questioning her choices if it turned out she was sleeping with the help.

Not willing to wake him up, however, she watched in rapt fascination and contemplation, eyes tracing over his exposed muscles, where he was bared up to the midriff. She felt heat radiating off him, and shivered as she remembered that heat pressed against her. Without that calm, collected exterior forming a perfect mask on his face, he looked young, almost angelic in slumber. Sleep had a way of ironing out whatever life had done to his thoughts, though she knew thoughts sometimes bled out into trouble dreams and light sleep.

He opened his eyes about five minutes later, the pupils at first contracting from the streams of sunlight from the window, then expanding again when they settled on her.

“How long have you been staring at me like that?” he asked, sleep-slurred and charming.
